	Abstract:	Seth Chase Taft was born in 1922, the grandson of president William H. Taft and son of Cincinnati mayor Charles Phelps Taft II. Following service in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Taft married Francis Prindle and began a successful career with Jones, Day, Reavis and Pogue in Cleveland. Taft was involved with politics and community activities for many years, including the reformation of the Cuyahoga County Charter in the 1950s and an unsuccessful Republican candidacy for mayor of Cleveland in 1967. He served as a Cuyahoga County commissioner from 1971 to 1978. The collection consists of awards, biographical documents, campaign literature, correspondence, financial data, meetings minutes, newspaper clippings, photographs, research files, and urban development proposal reports.

	Abstract:	James A. Briggs was an attorney in Cleveland, Ohio, and New York State; editor of the Cleveland True Democrat; special correspondent to several newspapers, including the Cleveland Leader; temperance advocate; and political supporter of Abraham Lincoln. The collection consists of two scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings, letters, proclamations, pictures, and notes written by Briggs, concerning Briggs' career as an attorney and journalist.

	Abstract:	Seth Chase Taft (December 31, 1922-April 14, 2013) was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Charles P. and Eleanor Chase Taft. He is the grandson of American president William Howard Taft. He married Frances Prindle (December 12, 1921-May 14, 2017) on June 19, 1943 and they had four children: Frederick I. (Rick) (b. June 26, 1945), Thomas P. (b. July 19, 1948), Cynthia B. (b. May 24, 1950), and Seth Tucker (Tucker) (b. March 4, 1953). They were active members of the greater Cleveland, Ohio, cultural, civic, and political community. 4	Title:	Judson Paul Lamb Papers

	Abstract:	Judson Paul Lamb was a prominent Cleveland, Ohio, attorney who served as Law Director of the city of Cleveland during the administration of Mayor Fred Kohler, 1922-1923. He also served as chairman of a statewide committee that drafted the first uniform traffic code for Ohio. In his private law practice, he was involved in several important litigations, including the Cleveland Clinic fire disaster of 1929, in which he represented the victim's families. The collection consists of six scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings and correspondence. Most of the clippings relate to litigation against the East Ohio Gas Company rate increases, a recall effort against Mayor Fred Kohler, and the resignation of Lamb and other cabinet officials. Also included are clippings regarding Lamb's private law cases, especially suits regarding the 1929 Cleveland Clinic disaster.

	Abstract:	Jordan C. Band (b. 1923) was a prominent Cleveland, Ohio, area lawyer and social activist. Born and raised in the Cleveland area, Band attended Western Reserve University for two years before being drafted into the Army in 1943. Upon his return home from the war in 1946, he married Alice Glickson, with whom he had three children. He finished his schooling in the Law School of Western Reserve University. Band was hired by law firm Ulmer, Berne, Gordon & Glickman (today known as Ulmer & Berne), where he worked until his retirement in 1994. Band concentrated in real estate and property law, and at one point served as the legal counsel for the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland. Band was also involved in numerous organizations, both nationally and in the Cleveland area. Nationally, Band served as chairman of the National Jewish Community Relations Advisory Council from 1967-1970. He was the national vice president of the American Jewish Committee from 1975-1980 and a member of the National Urban Coalition, the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, the National Conference on Soviet Jewry, the Bureau for Careers in Jewish Service, the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds, and the Jewish War Veterans. Locally, Band was deeply involved with the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland, serving as chairman of several committees. He was also a member of the Community Relations Board of Cleveland from 1970-1980 and 1983-1990. He was co-chairman of the Greater Cleveland Project, chairman of the Greater Cleveland Conference on Religion and Race, and chairman of the Mayor's Committee on Rewriting of Rules Applicable to Deadly Force by Cleveland Police Officers. Further, he was a member of the Greater Cleveland Roundtable Race Relations Committee, the Study Commission on Race Relations at Cleveland State University, the United Torch Allocations Guidelines Committee, and the Shaker Heights Human Rights Commission. Band was an outspoken advocate for social change and civil rights. He spoke publicly about the plight of Soviet Jewry, the perils of segregation, and the responsibility of Jews as social activists. He was active in the civil rights movement of the 1960s and frequently spoke and wrote about Black-Jewish relations. The collection consists of correspondence, awards, speech texts, writings, minutes, and scrapbooks.

6	Title:	Records of the Mayor of the City of Cleveland, George V. Voinovich

	Abstract:	George Victor Voinovich was born in 1936 and grew up on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio. He attended Ohio University for his undergraduate studies and received his law degree from Ohio State University in 1961. Following his marriage to Janet Allan in 1962, he established a law practice in his Collinwood neighborhood. He was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1966, became Cuyahoga County Auditor in 1971, and was elected a Cuyahoga County commissioner in 1976. He also served one term as Lieutenant Governor under James A. Rhodes. Voinovich was elected mayor of the city of Cleveland in 1979 and served for ten years, restructuring the city's finances, promoting neighborhood revitalization, and supporting development of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, among other achievements. The National Civic League awarded the city of Cleveland the "All American City Award" three times during Voinovich's tenure. He was elected Governor of Ohio in 1990. From 1999-2011, he represented Ohio in the United States Senate. The collection consists of the mayor's office files transferred in 1989 to the Western Reserve Historical Society as an agent of the Ohio State Archives under the Ohio Public Records Law. These include correspondence, memoranda, reports, meeting minutes and agendas, publications, speeches, invitations, regrets, press releases, photographs, and videotapes, with newspaper clippings comprising more than half the volume of the collection.
